Brief History and Rationale for Excell Academy
Sabrina Williams is the founder and executive director of Excell Academy. Excell Academy was founded over 22 years ago as a result of Sabrina’s extensive work, experience and research in gifted education. Excell Academy was developed with all students in mind, all achievement levels, all educational backgrounds, and all nationalities. Sabrina, along with Excell Academy staff and Board of Directors, believes that high expectations and high quality instruction needs to be available to all children, and all children can benefit from many of the educational strategies and philosophies of gifted education. Excell Academy is dedicated to providing an academically challenging educational experience for children who have historically been excluded from this kind of opportunity. Excell Academy is also dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable learning atmosphere for its students, staff, and community.

Excell Academy’s Working Mission
Founded in 2001, Excell Academy for Higher Learning serves Pre-K to 8th grade college-aspiring students with the promise to prepare them for higher education and positive productive citizenship.
Excell Academy delivers a rigorous, values-based, “whole-child,” equity-in-education success path that:
- builds authentic relationships between our staff, students and families
- is culturally responsive, relevant, and inclusive
- offers social-emotional learning and supports with behavioral restorative practices to develop positive learning behavior and a strong and balanced mindset
- offers individualized interventions and/or enrichment while continuously monitoring progress and achievement
- creates empowered critical thinkers who are socially responsible.
Excell is blessed with a strong, dedicated staff and long tenure of a significant portion of our teachers. Since 2020, the Minnesota Department of Education has awarded Excell “High Quality Charter School” status. We are proud that our students outperform other schools with similar demographics across Minnesota.
Excell Academy has annually earned the “School Finance Award” for fiscal performance from the MN Department of Education since 2008.
