Academic Achievement at Excell Academy 2018-2019
Excell Academy has been recognized again by the Star Tribune as a Beating the Odds school! (http://www.startribune.com/which-minnesota-schools-are-scoring-better-than-expected/489886271/)
The graphs below show the expected performance of our students (based on demographics, poverty rates, etc.) and the actual performance of our students based on the 2019 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA). As you can see, our students outperformed expectations in both math and reading and have done so for the last 6 years. Reading was especially strong and our performance merited a “Beating the Odds” designation.
In reading, Excell Academy students were almost 20% higher than expected. We still have work to do to close the opportunity gaps our students face, but we are moving in the right direction.
Excell Academy’s “Years at Excell Academy” Data
One of the data points that we carefully track at Excell is our “Years at Excell” data. This shows us how students are performing academically after several years at our school. Time and again, this data shows that several years in a row of highly quality instruction and a positive learning environment leads to academic success in both math and reading.
Excell Academy’s Students Outperform Their Peers in City, District and State
Excell Academy’s Black, Free and Reduced Price Lunch and English Learner students are outperforming their peers in neighboring schools, the Osseo School District and the State of Minnesota. This is shown by the State of Minnesota’s North Star Accountability data.
English Learners Outperform the City, District and State
Our English Learning students far outperform English Learners statewide, and are nearly twice as proficient in Reading as the State’s ELs.
Black Students at Excell Outperform the City, District and State
Students that Qualify for Free/Reduced Price Lunch at Excell Outperform the City, District and State
All Students at Excell vs. All Students in the State of Minnesota
Until the All Students group at Excell performs as well as the All Student group in the State of Minnesota, there will be more work to be done. We believe we know what it takes and will continue to provide high quality instruction, positive and culturally responsive learning environments and will encourage families to stay at Excell for many years to ensure the success of their students.
